Succour has come to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the North East courtesy of the Saudi Arabia Kingdom through the King Salman Humanitarian Centre with supply of food items worth 10 million Dollars across the IDP camps and communities affected by Boko Haram insurgency in the North East.
While presenting the relief materials at Teachers Village IDP camp, Maiduguri on Thursday, the representative if the King Salman Humanitarian Centre, Nasir Al- Subai said “the relief materials which consists of different food items is aimed at providing succour to 840,000 IDPs across the Northeast”.
He commended the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and Borno state government for facilitating the distribution of the relief materials to the IDPs and for the warm reception during their stay in the state.
Also speaking at the occasion, the Minister for Defence, Mansur Dan Ali, who requested the Saudi Kingdom to set a pace for the understanding and preaching of Islamic knowledge said ” I request the Saudi Kingdom to promote the preaching and understanding of the doctrines of Islam, as the misunderstanding and misinterpretation of Islam led to the insurgency in the Northeast “.
He said “I commend the Kingdom of Saudi and the King Salman Humanitarian and Relief Centre for the gesture. During my visit to the Kingdom, I requested humanitarian assistance for our displaced persons in the Northeast.”
While thanking King Abdulazeez and the Crown Prince, Salman for the gesture, he said the relationship between Nigeria and the Saudi Kingdom is cordial and that his visit to the Kingdom has strengthened the relationship through intelligence and defence, as well as other diplomatic ties.
In his remarks, the Borno state Governor, Hon.Kashim Shettima on behalf if the government and people of the Northeast thanked the Saudi Kingdom for the donation of the relief materials.
“On behalf of the people and government of the Northeast states, we thank the Saudi Kingdom and the King Salman Centre for the distribution of the relief materials,” the governor added.
” The King Salman Humanitarian centre is working in over 40 countries across the globe with 120 Non Governmental Organisations to provide humanitarian services. I assure you that the relief materials will be judiciously utilized for those they are intended for ” Shettima said.
He commended President Muhamnadu Buhari and the Military for liberating the Northeast and the military for their efforts and commitment to end insurgency in the Northeast.
In his welcome address, the Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Engr. Mustapha Maihaja said the distribution which will be carried out by SEMA, NEMA and other stakeholders, each household will get 59.8 kg of food items which consist of 25 kg of rice, 25 kg of white beans 4 kg of vegetable oil, 4 kg masa products, 2 kg of tomato paste and 1 kg of salt.”
“As part of the foreign intervention of Salman Humanitarian centre, today we are inaugurating the distribution of the relief materials in some camps and communities in Borno state. 135,317 baskets of foods items and training the staff of NEMA in the area if capacity building”, Maihaja added.
