Leadership crisis: NWC dissolves Osun NNPP executive

The National Working Committee (NWC), of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), has dissolved the Osun State executive of the party over leadership crisis.

The dissolution is contained in a letter dated Sept. 11, signed by the National Secretary of the party, Dipo Olayoku, and made available to newsmen on Tuesday in Osogbo.
According to the letter, members of the state executive were dissolved following a vote of no confidence passed on the state chairman of the party, Dr Tosin Odeyemi, and the mass resignation of members of the executive.
The NWC, however, appointed a six-man caretaker committee for the duration of three months to be headed by Alhaji Abdulsalam Abdulateef.
The letter read partly, ” the NWC after reviewing the situation of things with NNPP in Osun State and due consultation with stakeholders, both within and outside the state, has approved the dissolution of the state executive.
“The headquarters has observed that the Osun State executive has been depleted due to resignation of members, while the remaining executive have lost confidence in the ability of the Chairman, Dr Tosin Odeyemi, to provide the needed leadership for any good showing in next year general elections.
” This is evident in the vote of no confidence passed on the erstwhile chairman by the remaining members of the executive.
“The NWC is using this medium to call on the chairman of the caretaker committee and other members to show leadership qualities and use his rare opportunity to heal old wounds and bring every member and the NNPP family together for the task ahead.
” The NWC is appealing to all our members in Osun to remain calm and await further directives from the National Headquarters”.
When contacted, the caretaker chairman of the party, Alhaji Abdulsalam Abdulateef, said that he would use his three months tenure to bring all the aggrieved members together ahead of 2023 general elections.
Abdulateef said members of the caretaker committee would also use their tenure to x-ray why NNPP is behind in Osun and how to work for the victory of the party’s presidential candidate Alhaji Rabiu Kwankwaso, in 2023 general elections.
” Myself and other members of the caretaker committee will use our short tenure to bring all party members to the same fold so that we can move in unionism ahead 2023 general elections.
” We must be united, purposeful and all of us must come onboard to know that there is something ahead of us to be done and do it with fairness for the success of our party in 2023 general elections”, he said.

It will be recalled that Members of the party had on Aug. 15 unanimously removed the Chairman of the party over alleged financial misappropriation.

Odeyemi was removed during a meeting at the party’s secretariat in Osogbo, where a vote of no confidence was passed on him.
