Member representing Dass constituency at the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Hon. Maryam Bagel has called on women in the state to maintain hygiene in their various homes to avert the outbreak of Lassa fever in the state.
Maryam Bagel made the appealed while distributing start up kits to 20 women and young girls trained by her organisation known as Capacity Building Initiative for Women and Young Girls (CABWOG ) in Bauchi.
She said that the empowerment is aimed at stimulating collective response to address the need for quality life, poverty alleviation and hygiene among women and children through mobilising, skill acquisition training and health information lecture organized for them to improve their living condition knowledge.
According to her, all beneficiaries underwent training at her CABWOG training centre.
The member then called on the beneficiaries to make good use of the items donated to them for positive change in their lives and family.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Habiba Sale, trained on soap making thanked the member and promised to put the knowledge they acquired to work and made good use of the start up kits.
Items distributed include: Six sewing machines and fourteen soap making ingredients, health information, skill acquisition items which include tailoring, detergents like soap,izal, dettol and pesticide.
Also speaking at the event, the State Coordinator, Evidence For Action (E4A) Ahmed M. Ahmed commended the legislator for her Initiative in empowering women to make them self reliant.
He said “when you empower a woman, you have brokered peace in the family and the community as a whole”.
According to him, this will go a long way in alleviating poverty in their homes and community as well as assist their husbands and children escape from the financial hardship they face.
In a related development, the member representing Toro/Jama’a constituency in the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Hon. Tukur Ibrahim has escaped being abducted by five gunmen.
According to a press release by the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Haruna Mohammed, at about 1.20am on the 21st of January 2016, gunmen stormed the residence of the legislator and forced the main entrance of the house open.
DSP Mohammed disclosed that the gunmen started firing sporadically with the intention to rob and kidnap their victim, but could not achieve their mission due to the intervention of a police patrol team led by the DPO Toro Division who stormed the residence of the lawmaker and engaged the gunmen in a fierce gun battle which lasted for more than 20 minutes.
According to him, due to the intensity of the exchange of gun fire, the gunmen retreated and were forced to abandon their mission, escaping towards the mountainous hills.
He revealed that no casualty was recorded adding that one live ammunition and 16 expended ammunition of 7.62 mm were recovered as exhibits from the scene of the attack.
The police spokeman said that the entire surrounding was cordoned off and intensive patrol was ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
