Over two-thirds of American voters think the forthcoming report prepared by Special Counsel Robert Mueller investigating alleged collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia should be released to the public, a new poll showed on Wednesday.
Robert Swan Mueller III is an American attorney and current Special Counsel of the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. elections and related matters.
He served as the sixth Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation from 2001 to 2013.
The Politico/Morning Consult poll showed that 68 per cent of the surveyed support the release of Mueller’s findings, while 10 per cent say the contrary and 22 per cent are undecided.
Voters of both parties show significant interest to see the results of the Mueller probe, with 79 per cent among Democrat voters supporting the release of the report and 59 per cent among Republican voters saying so.
Overall, 49 per cent of the respondents believed that the Trump administration should not be allowed to redact anything in the Mueller report before its public release.
Meanwhile 28 per cent said the administration does have the right to censor parts of the report.
Supporters of both parties were split on the issue; with 52 per cent among Republican voters saying the Trump administration had the right while 11 per cent among Democratic voters saying the same.
Mueller, who was appointed in May 2017, is looking into the alleged Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. presidential election and any potential collusion between the Trump campaign and Moscow, among other matters that may arise from the investigation.
Trump has repeatedly dismissed any collusion between his campaign and the Russians, while slamming the Russia probe as a “hoax” or “witch hunt.”
The poll surveyed 1,994 registered voters on Feb. 22 to 24 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points.
