Man, 35, escapes lynching after raping 13 yr-old girl in Yenagoa

NEDU MARK, Yenagoa

A 35 year-old man Mr. Akpobomei Michael, over the weekend, in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, escaped death at the hands of an irate mob for allegedly raping a 13 year-old girl.

Confirming the incident, State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Asinim Butswat, an Assistance Superintendent of Police said, the rapist was attacked by mobs shortly after the rape.

The Police Image maker said, the incident happened at about 9.30 am as the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Yenagoa, responded to a distress call from residents of Akenfa 1 Community.

The police spokesman in a statement said, on arrival, they met an irate mob attacking one Akpobomei Michael for allegedly raping a 13 year-old girl.

He also said the suspect was rescued and was subsequently detained.

“The Police Command appreciates the commitment of members of the public in assisting police in fighting crimes,” the statement said.

The command also warned the public to desist from assaulting crime, but report the incident to the police as investigation is ongoing on the alleged rape.
