Four more Nigerians have won elections into various elective positions abroad.
They are a United States-born Nigerian, Dr Oye Owolewa, District of Columbia, Chiaka Barry, Ginninderra District, Australia, Segun Adeyina, Georgia, USA and Yemi Mobolade, Colorado Springs, USA.
In a congratulatory message, NIDCOM Chairman/CEO, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa hailed their victory at the polls, applauding them for their feats in the political arena of their different places of residence and for setting standards for others that will follow.
While Dr Oye Owolewa was re-elected as the Shadow Representative for the District of Columbia under the Democratic Party, Chiaka Barry got elected into the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) Legislative Assembly covering the Ginninderra District under the Liberal Party. Segun Adeyina was re-elected as State Representative of District 110, Georgia, USA while Adeyemi Mobolade was elected the Mayor of Colorado Springs, in 2023, making history as the first black person to attain such feat.
Dabiri-Erewa commended their relentless efforts, urging them to keep up the resilient spirit as they carry out their duties.
She prayed to God for protection, strength and direction for them in their new positions while also encouraging them to continue putting in their best in the discharge of their duties.
Dr Owolewa, a Pharmacist, thanked his supporters for the confidence they reposed in him.
Chiaka Barry, an experienced legal officer with exceptional and diverse skills in litigation, alternative dispute resolution, legislative drafting, policy development and project management, is a passionate community leader who has dedicated her life to serving others.
Segun Adeyina, on his part, has held many high positions in Georgia, and for over 25 years has worked in IT programming and project Management for Fortune 500 Companies across multiple industries, including General Motors, Ascension Health System and Hewlett Packard/ Cap Gemini.
On the other hand, Adeyemi Mobolade is a Nigerian-American businessman and politician, whose election as the 42nd Mayor of Colorado Springs, USA, has been described as historic in Colorado Springs, being the first time a black person is being elected into the position.
