Muslim-Muslim ticket: Condemnations trail fake Bishops at unveiling of Tinubu’s running mate

Controversy and condemnation have continued to trail the dramatic appearance of a strange group of people passing off as Bishops who appeared at the unveiling of the vice presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Kashim Shettima.

This is as the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), on Wednesday, described the fellows as unknown elements and desperados who attended the program for themselves.

Videos have appeared showing the men and a woman, inappropriately dressed and posing as Bishops, filing into the venue of the event and hiding their faces and refusing to answer questions addressed to them by the media.

Some commentators have said that the individuals have, so far, not been identified as authentic clerics serving the Christian Church anywhere in the country and may have been hired to play the roles they played, to give the impression that some Christian leaders are in support of the Muslim-Muslim ticket that the APC is presenting for the 2023 presidential election.

CAN, the umbrella organisation of all Christians in the country, has already kicked against the same faith ticket for the presidency, insisting that it is unjust.

Reverend Joseph John Hayab, the Vice President of CAN (19 Northern States and Abuja), in an interview with journalists in Abuja, said that the people who were paraded as Bishops at the Alhaji Bola Ahmed Tinubu/Alhaji Kashim Shettima program “are people who did not have enough time to learn how to wear Bishops’ garments. Take a closer look at their photo and you will see another Nollywood movie,” he declared.

Reverend Hayab, who is also the Chairman of the Kaduna State chapter of CAN said Bola Ahmed Tinubu (BAT), who is the presidential candidate of the APC is free to “hire mechanics and other artisans and sew clerical garments for them,” but that the effort would only add to the many robes the clowns would have but would not change the need for fairness and justice.

“CAN wonders why the desperation. First, a story was out claiming to have come from the Chairman of CAN Borno State only to be refuted. Secondly, there was another lie that BAT (Bola Ahmed Tinubu) and his running mate were on their way to meet CAN President one night. A meeting that was not true and was on a night that the CAN President was in Alabama USA attending Baptist World Alliance Conference of which he is the Vice President.

“Another desperation story was that they met Papa Adeboye which the RCCG later refuted. If Christians are not important why the desperation?” he asked rhetorically.

Some commentators already claim that they can recognise some of the “actors” in the drama with reports that some of them have confessed that they were promised varying sums of money and shortchanged by those who procured them. They claim that they were given much less money than they were promised when they were allegedly engaged.

As at press time, there had not been any reactions concerning the “Bishopsgate” from the Tinubu Campaign organisation or the APC leadership.
