The Naira traded at ₦1,346.49 to the dollar in the official Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NFEM), while the United States currency sold for about ₦1,405 in the parallel market, according to the latest available figures as of Monday, Aug. 24, 2026.
The latest confirmed official rate from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) was recorded on Friday, Aug. 21, as the apex bank had yet to publish Monday’s NFEM figure. The official rate reflected the volume-weighted average of foreign exchange transactions conducted in the market.
The Naira’s recent performance showed relative stability, with the difference between the official and parallel markets remaining comparatively narrow. A separate live foreign exchange benchmark quoted the dollar at about ₦1,348.88 against the naira on Monday morning.
According to the latest CBN data, the NFEM rate stood at ₦1,346.49 per dollar on Friday, while the currency closed the session at ₦1,346.90.
The Friday closing rate represented an improvement of ₦1.14 from Thursday’s ₦1,347.63, indicating a marginal strengthening of the naira within one trading day. On a week-on-week basis, the currency recorded a gain of ₦11.12 against the dollar.
During Friday’s trading session, the dollar moved between ₦1,342 and ₦1,348 before closing at ₦1,346.90.
In the parallel market, the dollar sold for about ₦1,405 on Friday, according to AbokiFX data. The quotation was unchanged from Thursday’s rate.
Based on Friday’s official closing rate of ₦1,346.90, the difference between the official and parallel-market rates was approximately ₦58.10 per dollar.
Recent improvements in foreign exchange liquidity and stronger external reserves have been cited as factors supporting the naira’s performance. Data cited by AbokiFX showed that Nigeria’s external reserves rose to $52.66 billion as of Aug. 19, 2026.
The latest figures indicate that the naira has continued to trade within a relatively stable range against the dollar in both markets, although rates available to individual customers may vary.
The actual exchange rate offered by banks and Bureau de Change operators may differ depending on transaction size, location and prevailing market conditions. Parallel-market quotations are also indicative and may change during the day.
For Monday, the latest confirmed benchmarks therefore remained ₦1,346.49 per dollar in the NFEM, ₦1,346.90 as the official closing rate and about ₦1,405 in the parallel market.
