Nollywood actor, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, will be buried in his hometown, Ilaro, Ogun State, on Monday, following his death at the age of 66.
Hassan died at about 3 p.m. on Sunday, according to a statement by his colleague and friend, Jide Kosoko.
Kosoko said the actor’s remains would be taken to Ilaro, where special prayers would be held at the Pavilion in the town.
The prayers are scheduled for 11 a.m. today, Monday.
“With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we announce the passing of Alhaji Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, who passed away at 3:00 p.m. today, Sunday, 23rd August 2026. At 66 years,” Kosoko said.
Hassan’s death followed reports of his prolonged health challenges, with members of his family and colleagues recently appealing for medical assistance.
His daughter, Kira, had disclosed in an emotional video that the actor was battling stage four cancer and appealed to the public for recommendations for medical or traditional treatment.
Another daughter, Lima, also spoke about his condition, saying hospitals were refusing to treat him and appealing for a medical expert who could assist him.
Following the appeals, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Senator Yayi, reportedly reached out to cancer specialists to assist the veteran actor, who was subsequently admitted for treatment.
Hassan’s colleagues, including Kosoko, Yinka Quadri, Kaka Odunfa, Baba Eleso, Antar Laniyan, Fausat Balogun, Toyosi Adesanya and Lateef Adedimeji, had also gathered for special prayers for him before his death.
Quadri had expressed gratitude for the support received, saying hundreds of offers had come from spiritual and traditional healers.
He, however, said it was difficult to move Hassan from the hospital to different locations at that stage of his treatment.
In an earlier interview with Oyinmomo TV, Hassan had spoken about his seven-year battle with the illness, recalling that there were periods when he could only take pap and had sought treatment at different places.
The veteran actor’s death has continued to generate reactions from colleagues and admirers across the Nigerian entertainment industry.
