NAPTIP empowers trafficked persons, GBV survivors in Sokoto

The Sokoto State Zonal Command of National Agency for Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Wednesday empowered trafficked persons and survivors of Gender Based Violence (GBV) with sewing machines, hair drying machines and trolleys to enable them start-up businesses towards self-reliance.

Highlighting the essence of the exercise, the Public Relations Officer, Sokoto NAPTIP Zonal Command, Hassantu Mikailu, admitted that their happiness goes beyond empowerment of victims to ensuring that, a good number of the perpetrators of GBV and human trafficking are arrested and prosecuted.

Addressing the beneficiaries, the Commander, Sokoto NAPTIP Zonal Command, Abubakar Abdulahi Tabra said they are always happy to give such assistance to beneficiaries for self-reliance.

Tabra, however appealed to beneficiaries not to resell whatever is given to them.

He further noted that the Command will follow them up by monitoring the level of their progress to ascertain how well they are utilizing whatever is given to them.

The Zonal Commander also promised to ensure that the Command will help encourage patronage for them.

Reacting to the gesture, one of the beneficiaries, an 11-year-old survivor of defilement, (names withheld) from Sokoto South local government within the metropolis, said NAPTIP has helped in restoring her dignity.

”I must appreciate NAPTIP and all their wonderful staff, especially the PRO, Hassanah, for her show of motherly love and consistent advise. All I can say, is that, may Almighty God continue to bless NAPTIP and all others engaged in humanitarian services.”
