Former Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, has resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Adamu was an aspirant in the recently concluded governorship primary of the APC in the state.

The former IGP resigned from APC on Monday in a letter addressed to the Chairman of the party in Makama Electoral Ward of Lafia Local Government Area of the state.

“Today, I address my letter to you the ward executives especially the ward chairman of my decision to resign from the APC with immediate effect.

“This decision was not taken lightly, however, recent developments within the party especially the conduct of the governorship primary in the state has made it difficult for me to continue with my political activities under the APC” he stated.

He particularly decried absence of internal democracy, fairness, transparency and equal opportunity for aspirants during the party’s governorship primary.

“I strongly believe that internal democracy, fairness, transparency and equal opportunity for aspirants and members were supposed to guide the affairs of any democratic political party.

“Unfortunately, the events surrounding the primary did not reflect this principle and have made me to lose confidence in the party’s leadership in the state.

“After wide consultations with my supporters, political associates and family members, I have decided to withdraw my membership of the APC to pursue my political aspirations through another platform.

“Kindly accept this letter as my formal resignation from the party,” he said.

Adamu appreciated the party for the opportunity to serve and contribute to its growth while he was a member.

He also thanked members of the APC at various levels for the cooperation and support while he was still a member.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that Adamu, however, did not state his next political destination.
