In efforts to minimize complaints and ensure proper feeding of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), the Borno state government has flagged off the first phase of the house hold feeding system for IDPs in Nganzai local government area of the state.

While flagging off the feeding system at the Bakassi camp Wednesday, Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno state said, “the flagging off of this house hold feeding system, which conforms with international best practices will eradicate complaints and ensure proper nutrition of all IDPs”.

Shettima who was represented by his deputy, Alhaji Usman Durkwa said the state government had wanted everybody to go back to his/her communities but some of the areas are not yet safe, as such the government will make sure that IDPs are properly fed, while they are still in Maiduguri.

The governor urged those who want to return back to Gajiram, the headquarters of Nganzai local government area, that SEMA will transport them back and provide them with food stuffs that they will eat while in Gajiram, before things pick up in their respective communities.

Speaking earlier, the Executive chairman Borno State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Engineer Satomi Ahmed said the pilot scheme of the feeding system was targeted at 83 households with 574 IDPs from Nganzai local government area.

The SEMA boss said “each household will go home with at least 75 kg of rice, a bag of 25kg of beans, a gallon of palm oil, onions, baobab leaves, okro, cooking utensils, salt, token cash among others every month.”

He said with the accurate data which is acceding to global standard of World Food Programme, WFP, will assist all humanitarian organizations and other international and local donors in intervening in post insurgency crisis.

“The feeding system will be extended to Moguno, Konduga, Damboa, Gwoza and Bama local government areas of the state if the pilot scheme is successful,” Ahmed stated.
