Updated: New Jersey, USA experiences first snow of the season; Commuters tell tales of pains

New Jersey, United States of America is experiencing the first snowfall of the season.

The snow which started mid to  late Thursday afternoon has enveloped everywhere in a blanket of white with the roads being nearly impassable.

Traffic snarls are evident in most places with government officials working round the clock to clear the roads of the snow that is hampering free flow of vehicular traffic.

Many drivers are experiencing tortuous times, some having spent several hours on the roads to cover very short distances.

Some that spoke to GPNews say they would have abandoned their vehicles if they could while others are considering going to sleep over at nearby hotels or other convenient places till morning when they hope the situation would have improved.

One resident said that car crashes as a result of people not heeding warnings concerning speed limits had contributed to the snarls while another said that it appeared that adequate preparations by public functionaries were not made in anticipation of the snow which was forecaste and which has not even been heavy.

Drivers are expected to take extra care as the roads are slippery and therefore dangerous.

Visibility is also reduced, but the weather condition is expected to improve later in the night.
