It was reported, Tuesday, that the 19-year-old was hospitalised after eating a salad that saw him fall ill from food poisoning.
Nigeria has now moved to declare that the striker is fit for the game against Egypt and that he never suffered from food poisoning.
“Alex Iwobi is on the pitch (as at Tuesday evening when the Super Eagles trained in Kaduna for the second time that day).
“He did not train on Tuesday morning because of a traveller’s bug.
“He never suffered from food poisoning,” Super Eagles media officer, Toyin Ibitoye said.
Iwobi is yet to be capped by Nigeria at senior international level in a competitive fixture.
It would be recalled that the Arsenal ace was hospitalised after suffering from food poisoning inside the Super Eagles camp in Abuja ahead of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2017 first leg tie with Egypt billed for Kaduna
Iwobi linked up with the Nigeria team in Abuja, Monday – hours after scoring on his first Premier League start for Arsenal, was unable to train after suffering from food poisoning which has led to him being taken to hospital.
Iwobi felt ill after reportedly eating a salad with the rest of the Nigeria team and his father has since visited him in hospital.
The news was confirmed by Nigeria coach Samson Siasia.
‘He suffered from food positioning and so was not part of training,’ he said.
‘His condition is stable.’
Iwobi was in line to start Nigeria’s African Cup of Nations qualifier against Egypt on Friday night but that now looks unlikely.
