Niger-Delta youth group under the aegis of the Niger Delta Youth Movement (NDYM), has thrown its weight behind calls by Nigerians for the restructuring of the country as recently canvassed by PANDEF and the political leadership of South East, South West and the Middle Belt Zones.
The group also advised the APC- led Federal Government to expedite action in the implementation of the 2014 confab report saying that, the report represented the voice of the people.
The National Public Relations Officer of NDYM, Comrade Meduoye Asiki Goodluck, in a statement on Wednesday which was made available to newsmen in Uyo spoke on the wanton killings of innocent Nigerians by Fulani herdsmen in the country and the allegations against the Nigerian military by General Theophilus Danjuma (Rtd), calling for a stop and reminding the military of the grave consequences if the carnage is not nipped in the bud
.According to them, ‘‘we acknowledge the supreme sacrifices paid by Nigerian security personnel in their effort at containing insecurity, but the people are wondering why these so called ‘suspected armed herdsmen’ are not apprehended and made to face the full wrath of the law.
In another development, ‘‘we commend the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for taking agriculture seriously as evidenced in the recent distribution of agricultural inputs to farmers in the region, its planned Football Academy for youths of the region and the promised Electricity Project in Oron nation in Akwa Ibom
state’’.
Having seen other laudable projects for the people of the region deliberately killed by some state governments in the South-South region, we commend the Nsima Ekere – led Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) in partnership with Microsoft Corporation and the Silicon Valley in the United States for an e-learning project
to ‘revolutionize education in the Niger Delta’, and urged that, this venture be concretized without unnecessarily allowed to wane away.
Since it is a vendor-funded project that shall benefit Primary and Secondary school students, we implore NDDC to synergize with state governments in the region so that relevant subject teachers can be impacted.
The movement also commended the NDDC Board Chairman, Senator Victor Ndoma Egba for meaningfully engaging youths of the region through training in Innosonkiara Academy.
They urged the leadership of the NDDC to live up to her promises of taking the youths out of militancy through such training noting that, as the umbrella youth body of the region, as well as the factor to the formation of the youth directorate of the Commission, “we shall strengthen our monitoring unit so that we follow up on all programmes and policy statements of the Commission.
“We, therefore, call on all stakeholders in the region irrespective of party affiliations to support the current NDDC administration which is doing well to reposition the region.”
