Niger Gov warns top public servants against partisanship ……. Appoints new Permanent Secretaries

Gov. Sani Bello of Niger State

Niger State Governor Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello has charged the newly appointed Permanent Secretaries to shun partisan politics and be ready to help the political class to achieve promises made to the electorates.

The Governor stated this during the swearing ceremony of the permanent secretaries conducted by Justice Aliyu Maiyaki shortly before the weekly State Executive Council Meeting in Government House, Minna.

Gov. Sani Bello, a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Jibrin Baba Ndace, said, stressed that the new civil service helmsmen are expected to come on board with absolute loyalty and dedication to work, adding that they should be guided by the ethics and standards of the civil service.

He noted that the appointment of the new Permanent Secretaries was coming at a critical period when the service had been politicised by the past administration, hence the need for the new Permanent Secretaries to remain above board and be diligent and focused on service delivery.

According to the governor, “You are coming at a time your services are much needed to give a new direction in the implementation of government policies, programmes and as well help the political class to fulfil our promises to the people”.

He urged them to be committed to their responsibilities and shun mediocrity stressing that government will not condone any act of indolence. He told them to deliver with high sense of “humility, accountability, professionalism and above all fear of God.

“Nothing less than the display of professionalism, expertise and good conduct will be acceptable from you as you bring your wealth of experience to bear on your new responsibilities”.

The governor then warned that his administration will not tolerate any form of indolence, as the administration will ‘not hesitate to do away with anyone found wanting in the line of duty”.

Two of the newly sworn in Permanent Secretaries have been in acting capacity while the remaining 17 were appointed after a competitive exercise on merit. The state now has 27 Permanent Secretaries.
