Nigeria defeats USA to secure historic FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup semi final place

Nigeria’s Flamingos, last Friday evening defeated the United States of America-USA 4-3 on penalties to reach the semi-final of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

In the Quarter final match, Edafe converted a spot kick to put Nigeria in front before Villarreal equalized for the USA in a 1-1 regulation time score.

With the game headed to the shootout, the Nigerian ladies placed themselves with a massive opportunity to stun the Americans and reach a first ever FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Semi-final.

In the ensuing shootout, Nigeria topped the Americans 4-3 to qualify for the semi-final where they are to meet the winner of Colombia vs Tanzania last eight clash.

Prior to the India 2022 edition, Nigeria’s best finish at a FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup were quarter-final spots in 2010, 2012, 2014.

A massive achievement for Nigeria at the competition after failing to score in 2016 before failing to qualify for the 2018 edition.
