The Nigeria U-20 female football team secured a semi-final spot with a 4-0 rout of the Teranga Lionesses of Senegal in their second group game of the 13th African Games in Ghana.

Under the guidance of coach Chris Danjuma, the Super Falconets continued their winning streak after defeating Morocco in their opening group match. Facing Senegal at the Cape Coast Stadium on Monday, March 11, 2024, the Nigerian team displayed exceptional prowess as they aim for gold in Gold Coast.

Maintaining their momentum, goal scorers Yina Aidoo and Chioma Oliseh retained their positions in the starting lineup as Nigeria made a strong start within the first fifteen minutes.

Loveth Edeh broke the deadlock in the 13th minute, providing Nigeria with an early lead to ease any initial nerves. The Senegalese goalkeeper thwarted another attempt at goal by Motunrayo Ezekiel just before halftime.

Motunrayo, however, redeemed herself after the break. Five minutes into the second half, she capitalized on a set-piece opportunity to score, and shortly after, Senegal’s defensive lapse gifted the Falconets yet another goal.

Chioma Oliseh further dashed any hopes of a Senegalese comeback by scoring her second consecutive goal in the 80th minute. A well-executed pass from Chiamaka Okwuchukwu set up Chioma’s goal, securing a comprehensive 4-0 victory for Chris Danjuma’s team.

With this triumph, the Falconets advanced to the semifinals as Group B winners, accumulating six points from two games. They now await the outcome of Group A to determine their opponents in the next stage of the tournament.
