He had been there all along, doing trend setting work in the entertainment industry, especially in the film world, but the accomplished Nigerian American filmmaker, GuGu E. Michaels shook the industry recently with the premiere of his pace setting action film, PRIVATE TARGETS.

The hugely successful premiere took place on April 9, 2022 at the Angelika Film Center in North Dallas, United States of America (USA). The turn out was overwhelming and all who watched the film enjoyed themselves with the filmmaker extraordinaire hugging the limelight and looking forward to a great run for the film that is already available for viewing online.

GuGu E. Michaels already has his bag full of Awards, but he has his eyes on much more, including the ultimate, the Oscars.

He has already won Best Action Film at the 2012 World Film Festival in Washington, D.C. That same year he bagged four more awards for best Indigenous Film (Native Language), Best Cinematography at the GIAMA Awards 2012, Best Costumes in a motion picture at The African Movie Awards and Best Picture also at The African Movie Awards.

Michaels also won Best Editor and Best Cinematography Awards at the Black Film Festival in 2005. In 2012 he also racked up over 12 nominations in multiple award organizations like World Music and Independent Film festival with his Action Movie “Dangerous Men” for Best Action film, Best Cinematography, Best Screenplay and Best African film.

His epic picture “UNGE’S WAR” picked up six nominations at the Nollywood and African Film Critics’ Awards (NAFFCA) popularly referred to as The African Oscars as well as The African Movie Awards for Best Director, Best Picture, Best Cinematography, Best Traditional Picture, Best Supporting Actor and Best Special Effects.

Michaels’ eye for details in movies has continued to prove its worth by getting him seven more nominations for “UNGE’S WAR” at Golden Icon Academy Movie Awards (GIAMA) for Best Motion Picture, Best Indigenous Film (Native Language) Best Costume, Best Sound, Best Cinematography, Best Producer and Best Writer.

The highly innovative filmmaker has worked as a Director on a number of commercials and independent projects including the feature films “Thugz“, “Dangerous County“, Urban Killaz“, “Repentance“, “Best Served Cold“, “Pastor’s Wife“, Dangerous Men“, “Unge’s War” and “Jacob’s Eye.”

He has also directed a number of campaigns for such retailers as Cadillac and Porsche and prior to founding AP Studios, Michaels served as president of Dallas based indie record label Redrumm Recordz and worked with such artists as hip-hop giants UGK, LUDACRIS and STEVE AUSTIN.

His Sinema Room, an independent movie on-demand platform, presents digital indie sinema in high resolution 2K/HD and is a hub for indie filmmakers (producers, writers and directors) to stream their movies straight to their audiences with no middlemen or women.
