Nigerian American, Chijike Ndukwu, sworn in to Hillside, New Jersey, Zoning Board


Nigerian American construction professional, Mr. Chijike K. Ndukwu has been officially sworn in, at the Hillside Municipal Building, as a Regular Member of the prestigious Hillside Board of Zoning Adjustment for a four-year term.
The oath of office was administered by Board Attorney Allen J. Barkin of Schwartz, Barkin & Mitchel.
Ndukwu has thus joined fellow board members led by Chairperson Dennis Kobitz. Others are Terrel Day, Kimberly Lungermann, Al-Nisa Tucker-Muhammad, Yehuda Schupper, Barbara Johnson, and two alternate members.
In his remarks at the event, Chairperson Kobitz congratulated Ndukwu on his appointment and welcomed him to the Board.
The Hillside Board of Zoning Adjustment serves a critical quasi-judicial role in municipal land use governance.
The Board reviews variance applications, hears appeals of zoning determinations, evaluates requests involving development deviations from township zoning ordinances, and helps balance private property rights with neighborhood character, public safety, traffic management, and long-term planning objectives. Its decisions can significantly shape community growth, redevelopment, and land use standards within Hillside.
Ndukwu, with a background in architecture, building regulation, and community development, holds a graduate degree in Architecture from the Abia State University, Uturu and another graduate degree in Community and Economic Development from Southern New Hampshire University, New Hampshire.
His appointment is expected to bring technical expertise, development insight, and professional experience to one of Hillside’s most important land use bodies.
