Edo Queens have defeated Ghanaian champions Ampem Darkoa Ladies to retain the WAFU-B Women’s Champions League title in dramatic fashion.
The Nigerian champions drew 2-2 with Ampem Darkoa in Saturday night’s final in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, before winning 4-1 on penalties.
Ampem Darkoa took an early lead through Beline Nyarkoh in the second minute, but Edo Queens quickly responded as Doosuur Anastasia Atume equalised two minutes later.
The Ghanaian side regained the lead in the 74th minute when Nyarkoh scored her second goal of the night.
However, Edo Queens refused to give up and Oluebube Umejiaku scored in the 94th minute to make it 2-2 and force a penalty shootout.
The Nigerian club kept their composure from the spot, scoring four penalties while Ampem Darkoa converted just one.
The victory means Edo Queens have successfully defended their WAFU-B title and secured qualification for the 2026–27 CAF Women’s Champions League.
It is also a sweet response to their group-stage defeat to Ampem Darkoa, who had beaten them 2-1 earlier in the competition.
Edo Queens first won the regional title in 2024 and went on to finish fourth in the CAF Women’s Champions League that year.
They will now have another chance to compete on the biggest stage in African women’s club football.
