Nigerian Club El Kanemi makes continental return with 1-1 draw against Benin Republic’s Dadje FC

In an historic occasion for fans of Nigerian football, Federation Cup Champions, El Kanemi Warriors made their return to CAF competitions for the first time in 31 years.

Their opponents in the first preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup were Dadje FC from Benin Republic. The match, held in Ikenne, was a significant event for the Maiduguri-based team.

Dadje FC took control of the game and deservingly opened the scoring with a goal by Selasie Bakai in the 30th minute. The equalizer for El Kanemi came in the dying moments of the match. Ajiji Samuel scored a crucial goal in the last minute, bringing the score level, 1-1. This goal was vital for the Warriors, providing them with a lifeline when they travel to Benin Republic for the second leg of the tie with hopes of advancing further in the competition.

The draw means that the contest is finely poised, with both teams having a chance to progress to the next round.
