Nigeria’s new Ambassador to USA, Dr. (Mrs.) Emenike, meets nationals in New York Jurisdiction Friday, October 29

Nigeria’s new Ambassador to the United States of America (USA), Ambassador (Dr.) Uzoma Emenike, will be meeting with Nigerians in the New York jurisdiction on Friday, October 29, 2021.

The New York Jurisdiction includes 20 states in the U.S – New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Maine, Vermont, Ohio, Indiana, Connecticut, Illinois, Rhode Island and Iowa.

Others are New Hampshire, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Minnesota.

The interaction, which will be virtual, will take place during the 3rd Town Hall Meeting with the Nigerian Community being hosted by the Consulate General of Nigeria, New York. The meeting will hold between 5:00pm and 7:00pm.

Nigeria’s Consul General in New York is Ambassador Lot Peter Egopija and the Consulate renders consular services to the 20 states within its jurisdiction.

The Town Hall Meetings by the Consulate General in New York have been platforms for interaction between Nigerians and officials of the Consulate. The Consul General and other senior officials of the Consulate use the opportunity offered by the meetings to brief nationals on efforts being made to serve them better as well as to educate them on what are expected of them in terms of how to access the services being offered by the Consulate.

Members of the Nigerian community, on their part, have used the window so offered to bare their minds, especially on issues of concern to them, the most recurring being about renewal of passports, issuance of travel documents generally and other consular services.

Dr. Emenike, who will be the Special Guest at Friday’s Town Hall Meeting, will thus, use the platform to engage with the nationals in this Jurisdiction.

The Abia State born Diplomat, who has served in the Nigerian Foreign Service for several decades, was Nigeria’s Ambassador to Ireland with concurrent accreditation to Iceland before she was posted to become the first female Nigerian Ambassador to the US.

She has, thus, stepped into the shoes of such men as Hassan Adamu, Zubair Mahmud Kazaure, Hamzat Ahmadu, Jibril Aminu, George Obiozor, Oluwole Rotimi, Adebowale Adefuye and Sylvanus Nsofor, all of who, at one time or the other,  had served as Ambassador in Washington, since October 1, 1960 when the Embassy was established.

Ambassador (Dr.) Emenike is the holder of two Bachelor’s degrees, two Masters’ degrees and a Doctorate, earned from Nigerian and foreign Universities.

She has a B.Sc. in Sociology and Anthropology from the University of Maiduguri, an LL.B. from the University of Reading in the UK, a Masters degree in International Law and Diplomacy from the University of Lagos (UNILAG), another Masters in International Management from University of Reading and a doctorate in International Relations, also from the University of Reading.

Besides her long years of service in the Foreign Service, Ambassador (Dr.) Emenike also operated in the private sector as, among others, a Management Consultant.

A prolific writer, she has to her credit, major published articles, such as “The Africa We Envisage in 50 Years Time” and “Europe Needs Africa.”

A mother of four and wife of Chief Ikechi Emenike, a frontline Nigerian politician, Ambassador (Dr.) Emenike has also authored the book, “Africa: The Centre-Piece of Nigeria’s Foreign Policy.”
