A survivor of the fatal accident that claimed several lives last Thursday, including that of Mrs. Amaka Ndoma-Egba, wife of former Senate Leader, Victor Ndoma-Egba, is Mrs. Nkechinyelu Mba, Executive Director, Corporate Services of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC).

Mrs. Mba, nee Eze, is the first and only female Executive Director of the company which is charged with the management of the National Integrated Power Projects (NIPP) across the country and represents the South East geo-political zone in the six-member Executive management of the key power company.

Mrs. Mba, a lawyer by training, is one of the daughters of Chief (Mrs) Justina Eze, a popular politician from the South East geo-political zone, a former member of the House of Representatives who represented Uzo Uwani constituency of Enugu State in the Second Republic, a one-time Nigerian Ambassador to Guinea Bissau and Cape Verde and Presidential Liaison Officer to the House of Representatives during Chief Olusegun Obasanjo’s presidency.

Mrs. Mba was among the survivors of the accident who were rushed to a private health facility after the crash that involved a truck, two cars and a bus, but she was thereafter airlifted to Abuja where she went through some surgeries at Cedar Crest Hospital and is presently said to be recuperating.

When news of the crash filtered out and her name was mentioned, her extensive network of family members, colleagues at work, alumni of the Abia State University, Law Faculty (Class of 1987) and the Law School were instantly activated and a flurry of activities, including fervent prayers all over the world commenced to ensure that she pulls through.

At the Cedar Crest Hospital, Abuja where she is being taken care of, there has been heavy traffic of members of her immediate and extended family, school mates and colleagues at work as well as other well wishers, all seeking after the well being of the much loved lady.

Mrs. Mba and the others were in a private bus from the Benin Airport on their way to Ondo State for the burial of the mother of Olusola Oke, a senior lawyer and leading politician, when the truck crashed into their bus.

Oke’s wife, Nkem, from Mbaitoli in Imo State is a mutual friend of the ladies and they were on their way to stay by her when the tragic accident occurred.

Mrs Mba was appointed Executive Director, Corporate Services of NDPHC in October this year.

Vice President of Nigeria, Professor Yemi Osinbajo is the Chairman of the Company which has six governors, one representing each of the six geo-political zones of the country in the Company’s Governing Board.
