NNPC Board Chairman, Musa Kida, leads top Management team to Borno for energy development talks
The Chairman of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) Board, Engineer Ahmadu Musa Kida, has led a top management team of the company to Borno State for discussions on oil exploration, gas infrastructure and solar energy development.
Kida and his delegation visited Maiduguri, where they met with Governor Babagana Umara Zulum at the Government House to discuss plans to expand energy development in Borno and other parts of the North East.
The discussions included the resumption of oil exploration activities in the Chad Basin, the expansion of gas infrastructure to improve electricity supply and the establishment of a major solar power project in the state.
Speaking during the visit, Kida said NNPC remained committed to serving Nigerians, describing the people as the company’s ultimate stakeholders.
He stressed that the company’s activities and resources were held in trust for the benefit of over 200 million Nigerians.
NNPC’s Executive Vice President for Upstream Operations, Udy Ntia, said the engagement was important for expanding Nigeria’s hydrocarbon resources and strengthening the country’s energy security.
Governor Zulum assured the company of adequate security for its personnel and equipment. He also clarified that the suspension of oil exploration activities in the area was not caused by insecurity.
On renewable energy, the governor described solar power as the future of Borno State and promised that land would be secured for the proposed solar plant.
He also called on NNPC to speed up plans to upgrade the Maiduguri Emergency Power Project to a combined-cycle system and explore opportunities for supplying gas to the state.
The visit is expected to open new opportunities for oil exploration, electricity generation and other energy projects that could support economic and industrial development in Borno State and the wider North East.
