NPC congratulates Mohammed on election as Editors’ Guild president

The Nigerian Press Council (NPC) has congratulated Mallam Garba Deen Mohammed on his election as the president of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE), just as the council pledged to continue to support and partner with the Editors’ Guild under the leadership of Mohammed.

A statement signed by Nnamdi Njemanze, Executive Secretary of the NPC, described the election of Mohammed as well deserved and being ‘in recognition of your contributions to the journalism, as a practicing journalist and managers of reporters.’

Mallam Mohammed was elected president of the NGE at its just-concluded annual conference which held in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa state capital, from August 26 to 30.

“On behalf of management and staff of the Nigerian Press Council, I wish to heartily congratulate you on your election to the exalted to the position of the President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors.

“Your election on Friday, August 28, 2015, no doubt , is in recognition of your contributions to the journalism, as a practicing journalist and managers of reporters. We are very confident that with your background, particularly as a respected journalist, you will continue to uphold the noble ideas of the Guild to preserve the best traditions and standards of journalism practice and defend the rights of the press in the country.

“We wish to assure you of Council’s support and partnership in working towards the well being of Nigerian journalist and upholding the ethics of our noble profession,” the statement read.
