NPFL: Akwa United Coach reveals plan to defeat Enyimba International in Aba

Head Coach of 2021 NPFL Champions Akwa United FC, Ayodeji Ayeni, says his team will hit Aba with a plan to defeat Enyimba International on Matchday 2 of the 2022/2023 NPFL season.

Coach Ayeni made this revelation in a chat with the club’s media crew ahead of the clash on Wednesday January 18.

According to Ayeni, Akwa United FC, aka the Promise Keepers, have put the disappointing opening day defeat to Bendel Insurance behind and will rather focus on getting a positive result in Aba.

Ayeni said “Victory in Aba is non-negotiable. We have moved on from the opening-day defeat to Bendel Insurance and we are committed and determined to register our first win of the season on Wednesday. Judging from the results after matchday 1, it’s clear that if a team is in good shape, victory away from home is very possible for any team.

“Throughout last week, we have worked on all noticeable mistakes we observed from the last game and the boys are ready and willing to deliver on Wednesday,” he said.

On team news for the game against the Enyimba International, aka the Peoples Elephants, Ayeni confirmed that captain Ubong Friday will not make the trip to Aba after sustaining an injury on Matchday 1, but dismissed fears that his absence may affect the team’s performance with assurances of quality replacement to cover for the skipper.

The Promise Keepers will play two successive away games in the space of four days; against Enyimba on Wednesday before traveling to face Nasarawa United on Matchday 3 in Jos on Saturday.

Enyimba International will head into the contest high in confidence following a 1-2 victory over Nassarawa United FC on Sunday.
