Enyimba FC returned to winning ways in a rescheduled matchday 17 Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) clash against Nasarawa United on Wednesday, January 8, 2025.
A scrappy first half in Aba saw Enyimba FC create several goal scoring opportunities but could only manage to convert one goal to lead 1-0 at the break.
The visiting Solid miners also got their own fair share of chances with the best of it coming in the 35th minute when Somiari Alalibo’s poor clearance left Anas Yusuf one on one with Ani Ozoemena but a poor header from Yusuf sent the ball out for goal kick.
The game was looking to end goalless at halftime untill Ifeanyi Ihemekewle’s through pass found Joseph Atule who slotted in the ball into the back of the net at the stroke of halftime.
In the second half, Anas Yusuf got redemption for Nasarawa United when he capitalised on a pass from Abubarka Garba’s to slot in an empty net in the 58 minute .
Substitute Brown ideye, a 2013 AFCON winner with the Super Eagles, who came on for Ekene Awazie in the 60th minute wasted no time to find the back of the net to restore Enyimba’s lead in the 63rd minute, thanks to a fine effort from Joseph Atule who took on Nasarawa United defenders to find Ideye whose goal was all Enyimba needed to end their eight games winless run in the NPFL
Up next for the People’s Elephant is the CAF Confederation Cup tie against AL Masry of Egypt in Uyo on Sunday, January 12, 2025.
