One of the five suspected bombers of Nyanya and Kuje, both satellite towns in Abuja, on October 2‎, 2015, Abdulwaheed Nasiru, Thursday pleaded guilty to‎ one of the five counts of terrorism instituted against them by the Federal Government.

Nasiru pleaded guilty to the possession of materials used for making Improvised Explosive Device and 12 already made ones when arrested along with other co-accused persons behind Military Cemetery Airport Road in Abuja on October 6.

Nasiru, the fourth accused person in the charges, had along with fifth accused person ‎Abdullahi Nasiru, had sought the charges to be interpreted to them in pidgin English.

‎He was repeatedly asked if he understood the charges and he maintained that he was guilty.

Even the intervention by his lawyer, Mr. Nurein Sulyman, who jumped up from his seat and approached the dock to ask him if he truly understood what he pleaded guilty ‎to, would not make him change his plea.

While admitting his guilt, he said he was not the owner of the IED materials but his friend’s.

“No be me get am; na my friend get am,” he said in pidgin English.

‎The rest of the accused persons pleaded not guilty to the rest of the charges.

The rest of the accused persons are Abdulazeez Muhazab, Ishaka Salihu and Mohammed Jimoh.

Justice Abdukadir Abdulkafarati‎ ordered the accused persons to be moved from police custody to prison.

The five suspects were brought to court by the Nigeria Police Force over thir involvement in the October 2, 2015 twin bombings in Kuje and Nyanya areas of the Federal capital Territory (FCT) Abuja.

Speaking earlier, Wednesday, in his office at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, the Inspector General of Police, Mr Solomon E. Arase, said, the suspects were eventually charged to the Federal High Court, Abuja for prosecution ‘after careful and discreet investigations into the recent bombings that took place in some parts of Abuja.’

IGP Arase said, the five suspects were arrested at Karamajiji Village, behind National Military Cemetery along Airport Road, Abuja and dangerous bombing tools which include i-Pad, laptop and phone, believed to be used as materials for making bombs were recovered.

The IGP who said the arrest of the suspects was made possible by the proactive nature of the newly formed Intelligence Response Team, also warned Nigerians to avoid the temptation of picking 1-pad, phones or laptops not kept by them, as terrorists now use these items in manufacturing bombs, knowing its attractions and needs to the people.
