Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr. Peter Obi, has said that he returned from a trip to Bangladesh “to receive with shock, and pain the very sad and ugly news of the beheading of a Labour Party Chieftain in Abia state, Zachary Maduka.”
Mr. Obi had been in the Bangladeshi capital, Dhaka, as Key Speaker at a Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMES) programme organised by the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council in partnership with the Government of Bangladesh.
The Commonwealth Trade & Investment Forum (Bangladesh 2023), with the theme: “SMES: Formalising and Internationalising,” took place from September 13-14, 2023 at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center and was declared open by the Prime Minister of Bangladesh.
In a tweet on his return, the former Governor of Anambra State said, concerning the killing of Maduka, that “Such a despicable act remains condemned in all its ramifications.”
He, thereafter, appealed to Governor Alex Otti of Abia State, to ensure that the “hateful dastardly act does not go unpunished,” stressing his confidence that the Governor and the state government as well as the extended Labour Party family will support the family of the slain party chief.
Obi also prayed God Almighty to grant the late Maduka eternal rest.
