Most Rev. Nicholas Okoh, the Primate, Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, has called on Nigerians to have hope in the country and its leaders for a better future.

Okoh made the call while speaking with newsmen at the 2017 Carnival for Christ and Thanksgiving of the Diocese of Abuja, on Saturday with the theme, ‘’The Truth Shall Set You Free’’.

“Nigerians should have hope because things are getting better and anybody who believes in God can never lose hope,’’ he said.

Okoh said that things were already getting better, urging Nigerians, especially the church, to continue to believe that God was working in the affairs of the country.

The primate said that the church gathered to celebrate God’s goodness upon the country and the church during the year.

“The essence of the carnival is to build a social bridge in the church to overcome any kind of tension that could arise from political, ethnic and tribal differences.

“That is why we have come to thank God at this carnival and as you can see, people are here to celebrate God’s goodness upon their lives.

“This is also part of building social bridges in the church,’’ he said.

Okoh decried the age-long clashes between farmers and herdsmen and called for education of people to recognise the need to live in peace and harmony with each other.

According to him, people should understand that they need others to live with, so that we can build a more stronger and powerful nation.

Ms Amah Pepple, a former Head of Service and Minster of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, said that the carnival was a very important event for the church.

Pepple, who was recently appointed as the Chairman of the Committee on National Minimum Wage, said that the event was to celebrate and thank God for all that He had done throughout the outgoing year.

The committee chairman said that she was part of the committee that started the annual carnival for Christ, saying that success have been recorded over the years.

The carnival featured match past by various zones of the church in the FCT and Bible recitation competitions.
The match past competition had Gudu Zone as the first winner, Durumi Zone came second, while Wuse Archdeaconry came third.
