New York, NY
A United States of America, US, based Group, Imo Diaspora Coalition for Justice and Democracy (IDCJD) has called on the seven Judges in the January 14, 2020 Supreme Court Judgment of the Imo State governorship case between Hon. Emeka Ihedioha and Senator Hope Uzodinma to recuse themselves from the review of their judgment.
The review of the controversial ruling which removed Ihedioha as governor and ordered that Uzodinma be sworn-in comes up on Tuesday, February 18, 2020.
The Group is demanding that the seven Judges excuse themselves from the matter because it considers them unqualified to be part of those to review the case on account of potential conflict of interest or lack of impartiality.
IDCJD, Sunday, announced the launch of an international campaign “to force the Seven Judges that orchestrated the ridiculous January 14, 2020 unanimous Supreme Court of Nigeria judgement that is causing a ripple of protests around the world to respectfully recuse themselves from the current effort to recover the integrity of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.”
A statement by Group, which has Prof. Eddie Oparaoji and Chijike K Ndukwu as media contacts, said “It should be recalled that the Supreme Court-sacked former Governor of Imo State of Nigeria, Hon. Emeka Ihedioha had formally filed a motion at the Supreme Court of Nigeria, praying the Court to review and reverse the ridiculous Imo State Governorship Election judgement of January 14, 2020, where the court declared a person (Mr. Hope Uzodinma) who was not a candidate in an election the winner, based on the addition of uncertified votes.”
It said that their campaign is part of IDCJD’s “Operation Do the Math” which seeks “remedy for the recent JUDICIAL FRAUD AND MISCARRIAGE OF JUSTICE BY THE NIGERIAN SUPREME COURT, in the annulment of the election of our duly elected popular Governor Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha of Imo State of Nigeria, and the imposition of Senator Hope Uzodinma, a proxy of Nigeria’s ruling political party – All Progressives Congress (APC).
“The Judges are as follows: (1) Justice Nwali Sylvester Ngwuta (2) Justice Aminu Adamu Augie (3) Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammed (4) Justice Amiru Sanusi (5) Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun (6) Justice Olukayode Ariwoola and (7) Justice Uwani Abba Aji.
“These Supreme Court judges’ decision of January 14, 2020, has been widely criticized by scholars, experts, analysts, pundits, and commentators, for inconsistencies and contradictions.
“This “Operation Do the Math’s” call for recusal of the Judges will:
“- Focus on creating global awareness on the inexplicable emerging facts showing that the Supreme Court of Nigeria, willfully failed to do a thorough simple mathematical computation of the results of votes cast at the Imo State Governorship Election, on March 9, 2019.
“- Reach out, and take our case against this injustice across the world among other initiatives.”
IDCJD, an ‘international public policy advocacy organization of Imo Citizens, South East Nigeria in the United States and around the world,’ said further that “This flawed judgment may have also upturned settled legal principles, over the years, with grave economic consequences for Nigeria if not reversed. It shifted the onus of proof of authenticating or validating of forged evidentiary materials or documents not on a responsible statutory agency, in this case, INEC, but on the respondents, while giving benefit of the doubt to the presenter of the forged document.
“Under such climate, in a country where corruption is endemic, this lack of a statutory controlling authority to authenticate documents, may cause distrust of official Nigerian documents, collapse investors’ confidence, crater Foreign Direct Investments (FDI), Diaspora remittances and consequently skyrocket joblessness, crimes and insecurity.
“To, therefore, prevent any further lasting effect of this miscarriage of justice by this seven Nigeria’s Supreme Court judges, we are calling on people of good conscience to call on these seven judges of the Court to immediately RECUSE themselves as the Court reconvenes to review and re “DO THE MATH” and restore the peoples duly elected popular Governor of Imo State, Rt Hon. Emeka Ihedioha!
“We are watching! The world is watching, and we shall not rest until justice is done!,” the Group pledged.
