Exactly one year after the Edo state legislature was forced out of holding plenary at the state assembly complex on Ring road, Benin City, due to internal crisis among lawmakers, politicians elected on the APC and PDP platforms, Monday, returned to the complex for their formal inauguration as the Sixth Edo assembly.
Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State who formally declared the first session of the sixth Edo State Assembly opened, through a letter communicated to the Clerk of the House, charged members to allign their efforts with his government to take Edo state to the next level.
Shortly after the inauguration, the lawmakers elected Hon Victor Edoror APC member from Esan Central local government as the Speaker with Mr Bright Osayande the APC member from Ovia NE II as his deputy. Mr Folly Ogedengbe from Owan East was elected Majority Leader.
Edoror a decampee from the PDP and former deputy speaker in the 5th assembly emerged the Speaker through a motion moved by Hon Folly Ogedengbe, the APC member representing Owan Easst Constituency and was seconded by another APC member representing Henry Okuarobo from Ikpoba Okha Constituency.
The motion for the election of the deputy speaker was moved by Mr Crosby Eribo from Egor and was seconded by Hon. Sunday Osazewinde representing Ovia SW constituency.
Accepting his election to the office of Speaker Edoror promised to carry all elected lawmakers irrespective of their political platforms along.
Edoror also promised to work harmoniously with the executive and judiciary arms in bequeathing democratic dividends to the people of Edo state.
The Assembly complex which was inaccessible to journalists due to the presence of heavily armed policemen is made up of 21 APC members of the APC and 3 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
