Osun governorship election: Obi, Dogara, Secondus hail Tribunal ruling; Congratulate Adeleke

Mr. Peter Obi
Speaker, House of Reps, Yakubu Dogara
Prince Uche Secondus, PDP National Chairman
Senator Ademola Adeleke

The Vice Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, in the February 23 Presidential Election Mr Peter Obi, Speaker, House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara and Chairman of main opposition party, PDP, Prince Uche Secondus have hailed the Osun state governorship Election Petitions Tribunal that returned PDP candidate, Senator Ademola Adeleke as winner of the poll.

In their separate reactions to the Tribunal’s ruling on Friday, the party chiefs congratulated Senator Adeleke on his victory and hailed the country’s judiciary’s role as the last hope of the common man.

Obi said that he has always believed that the Judiciary will save the country’s democracy and halt the present rascality being enthroned in the society in the name of politics.

He stressed that the ruling has shown that all hope is not lost concerning Nigeria as the Judiciary continues to show that it is, in reality, the last hope of the people.

Hon. Dogara, in his reaction, hailed the judgment of the Tribunal sitting in Abuja which upheld the petition of the PDP candidate and declared the September 27, 2018 supplementary governorship election held in seven polling units illegal, describing it as a refreshing reminder that the judiciary is still alive and working.

He said the Tribunal’s judgment, which held that the supplementary election was a product of an illegal cancellation of  results in seven polling units during the September 22, 2018 main election and that the Returning Officer who cancelled the results had no power to do so, has rekindled hope in Nigerians who felt robbed of their mandates in the just concluded general elections.

The Speaker warned the Governor of Bauchi State as well as the Resident Electoral Commissioner of the state to take a cue from the judgment and learn  a lesson that the truth will always prevail, no matter how long it takes as the wheels of justice grinds slowly but surely.

While congratulating the PDP and Senator Adeleke, he urged PDP’s candidates who are standing for elections tomorrow (Saturday, March 23, 2019), as well as their supporters, to be encouraged by this judgment and come out enmasse to vote for the party

Prince Secondus, while congratulating Senator Adeleke for his victory at the election tribunal.

said that the Judiciary should be hailed for standing up for the truth in the face of harassment and intimidation.

He also noted that the Tribunal, by its landmark ruling has helped to restore hope to Nigerians that all stolen mandates shall be recovered from the electoral robbers and returned intact to the rightful winners.

He also commended the Judges for putting truth and justice ahead of any other matter in carrying out their professional responsibilities.
