The Osun State Police Command has summoned Senator Francis Fadahunsi over his viral comment telling supporters to “kill” members of the Accord Party.
Fadahunsi, who represents Osun East Senatorial District, made the comment during an All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign in Ilesa on Tuesday.
His statement caused outrage on social media after a video of the senator speaking in Yoruba was widely shared.
In the video, Fadahunsi appeared to tell APC supporters to attack members of the Accord Party if they saw them during the election.
Following the public reaction, the police invited the senator to explain the circumstances surrounding the statement.
In a letter dated August 11, 2026, the police ordered Fadahunsi to report to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Osogbo at 11am on Wednesday, August 12.
The letter was signed by Samuel Etaifo Erale, the Commissioner of Police in charge of elections in Osun State.
The police said the invitation was based on information that the senator made statements considered “threatening, inciting and intimidating”.
The police also noted that the statement had been widely shared on electronic and social media platforms.
‘I Meant Kill Them With Votes’
Following the backlash, Fadahunsi said his comment had been misunderstood.
His team explained that the senator was calling on voters to reject the Accord Party through peaceful and democratic means at the ballot box.
In a statement titled “Kill Osun Accord with Votes, Not Violence,” his team said the comment was political and metaphorical.
The August 15 governorship election has been marked by political tension, with Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is seeking re-election under the Accord Party, repeatedly accusing the APC of using thugs to attack his supporters.
The police are expected to question Fadahunsi as part of efforts to clarify the controversial statement ahead of the election.
