Igueben (Edo), Aug. 19, 2020
Dr Tony Aziegbemi, Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo has said that the party has issued out about 120, 000 party cards to defectors joining the party since Gov Godwin Obaseki defected to the party.
Recall that Obaseki defected to the party in June after his disqualification by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to contest for re-election.
Aziegbemi said the cards were issued to defectors from the APC who moved to the party with the governor as well as other members of the public who want to join the success story of the party.
Speaking on the sideline of the party’s ward to ward campaign tour to Igueben Local Government Area, he noted that Obsseki who is the party’s candidate had done remarkably well in his first tenure.
He noted that his performance was speaking for him as could be seen from the turn out of supporters who troop out to receive the campaign team as well as listen to the governor in all the wards so far visited.
He further said that the citizens of the state should expect more developmental strides from the party’s candidate in the next four years.
“That is why we are asking the people to vote massively for our candidate on Sept. 19, for continuity and consolidation.
Similarly, Mr John Inegbedion, a chieftain of the party said that the PDP candidate has delivered on almost all his 2016 electioneering campaign promises.
He noted that the people of Igueben were a distinct set, who do not like to be in the opposition.
He added that, it was the reason they massively joined the PDP candidate to PDP when he left the APC.
He added that the governor had done a lot for Igueben, saying “That is why we want to compensate him with our PVCs and vote on Sept. 19, since silver nor gold we have none”.
