The New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, in Gombe State House of Assembly has now taken over the minority position from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
This development followed the defection of Bashir Yakubu Barau, Kaltungo West State Constituency, from the ruling All Progressives Congress APC, into the NNPP.
Before Bashir’s defection, the PDP and NNPP had three seats each in the State House of Assembly but with this development, the NNPP now has four seats and will consequently produce the minority caucus in the House.
Bashir Yakubu Barau, who was received into the NNPP fold by the Gombe State Governorship candidate of the party, Khamisu Ahmad Mailantarki, said he took the decision to join NNPP in the best interest of the state.
According to him, both the APC and PDP lacked the requisite leadership qualities to unite and develop the state.
Since the emergence of Mailantarki as the NNPP Governorship candidate last year, aggrieved members from both APC and PDP have been moving to the NNPP.
It could be recalled that, some state lawmakers, two from the APC and one from PDP had earlier defected and joined the NNPP which increased its presence in the State House of Assembly.
Recently, two former deputy chairmen from Billiri, one each from Kwami and Nafada LGA as well as a former Councillor from Tal ward in Billiri LGA, defected from the PDP and joined the NNPP.
