PDP reacts to inciting statement by Tambuwal in Sokoto

BY ANKELI EMMANUEL, Sokoto

The chairman of Peoples Democratic (PDP) in Tambuwal local government of Sokoto State, Alhaji Umaru Sarkin Noma, has appealed for peaceful conduct in the March 18 Governorship and State Assembly election.

Umaru made the appeal in reaction to a viral video in the social media in which the All Progressives Congress (APC) chairman of Tambuwal local government, Alhaji Maitafsiru Tambuwal had urged his supporters to unleash mayhem on anybody considered against their interest in the March 18 election day.

According to Umaru, inciting supporters or using words capable of causing chaos before, during or after the election will do no one any good.

Addressing newsmen at the Sokoto State Secretariat of NUJ, Alhaji Umaru in the company of local government party secretary, Alhaji Ibrahim Altine and Abubakar Aminudeen Ahmed reminded the electorate that power comes from God alone.

They, therefore advised that nobody should commit crime just to please any politician, adding, everybody will account for their deeds either on earth or in the hereafter.

Recall that the political atmosphere in Sokoto has been very tense lately with the ruling PDP and opposition APC at each other’s throats.

The two dominant parties in the State have been spitting fire and brimstone. And their supporters have had cause to engage in violent exchanges in the past.
