Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has described the death of the Secretary General of the Nigeria Nabour Congress (NLC), Emmanuel Ugboaja, as the loss of a friend, a committed patriot and a passionate advocate for workers’ interests and a better Nigeria.
Mr. Obi, who was the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 election, in an X post, said that he first met Ogboaja during his time at the LP and that their paths crossed on several occasions thereafter.
The former Anambra State Governor said that in the course of their interactions, he was struck by the late labour leader’s “deep commitment to the welfare of workers, his belief in justice and fairness, and his desire to see a Nigeria where every citizen can live and work with dignity.
“Emmanuel was not one to remain indifferent to the challenges facing ordinary Nigerians. He spoke with conviction and consistently demonstrated a genuine concern for the people, particularly workers whose contributions to the nation are often overlooked.”
Obi stressed that Ugboaja’s passing “is a painful loss to his family, friends, colleagues, and the wider community of people who shared his ideals. Nigeria has lost a man who believed in the possibility of a better country and was willing to contribute to making that possibility a reality.”
He extended “heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and all who mourn this great loss,” and prayed God to grant the late labour leader’s loved ones the strength to bear this difficult moment, as well as grant Emmanuel Ugboaja eternal rest.
