EFCC arrests eight suspected Internet fraudsters in Akwa Ibom
The Uyo Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced the apprehension of eight individuals suspected to be engaged in internet fraud in Akwa Ibom State.
According to a statement released by EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, the suspects were arrested on Thursday, May 2, 2024, in the Osongama Extension area of the state following credible intelligence reports.
Oyewale disclosed that items recovered from the suspects include seven laptops, 13 smartphones, two wristwatches, and one router.
The EFCC spokesperson further stated that the suspects would be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.
“Operatives of Uyo Zonal Command of the EFCC on Thursday, May 2, 2024, arrested eight suspected internet fraudsters in an early morning sting operation at Osong Ama Extension in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
“ They were arrested following credible intelligence on their suspected involvement in internet fraud. Items recovered from them include seven laptops, 13 smartphones, two wristwatches, and one router,” the statement read.
