2027 presidential hopeful, Mr. Peter Obi, has appealed to Nigerians not to give up on the country despite the growing economic and security challenges.
Obi made the appeal in a social media post on Monday, May 5, 2026, after officially joining the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) from the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The former Anambra State governor said Nigeria is currently passing through a difficult period, with many citizens struggling daily.
“Nigeria today is passing through one of the most difficult periods in its history. Poverty is rising. Hunger is widespread. Insecurity continues to threaten lives and livelihoods. Businesses are shutting down daily,” Obi wrote.
He also expressed concern over the situation facing young people in the country.
“Our young people are becoming discouraged, and many citizens have lost faith in the system,” he added.
Obi said leadership in Nigeria should focus on competence, compassion and service to the people rather than division and propaganda.
“At a time like this, leadership must be driven not by propaganda or division, but by competence, capacity, character, and compassion,” he stated.
The former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate praised Nigerian youths and women for remaining peaceful despite the hardship in the country.
“I thank Nigerians, especially our youths and women, for remaining peaceful, resilient, and hopeful despite the enormous challenges confronting the country,” Obi said.
He urged citizens to continue believing in the country’s future.
“I urge you not to lose faith in Nigeria. Nations do not change because people surrender to hopelessness; they change because people continue to believe, continue to sacrifice, and continue to stand for what is right,” he added.
Obi ended the message with his popular statement: “A new Nigeria is still POssible.”
