Poem – Sambisa: Farewell to tomorrow By Nze Ozichukwu Chukwu

A games reserve for wildlife
Mythical forest for daring the forbidden.
Like Eden, adventurers have gone into hiding
Turned into a tragic and haunting metaphor.
Innocence and serenity lost.
Chibok Girls swallowed, history defiled
Another legacy of defeat and failure
In a new age of discontinuity.
Families woke up blank,
Siblings lost to memory
Watching the chilling demographics in
BRING BACK OUR GIRLS.
Protectors their misery commercialized,
In a perilous journey in aimlessness,
Through an endless forest vegetation;
Gambling with posterity, trust and faith,
Celebrating what civilizations abhor,
In an environment of headless coalitions
Collective amnesia and alibi.
Mystery at twilight
Faced with omnipotent nightmare
Sambisa, the worst in us
represents;
Settles into a quiet existence.
In a world where everything is
Inclement, hostile or violent,
Religions prompt response.
In an operation daring and precise
Is sweet reunion in bitter company,
A birthday presence or Farewell Message.
Farewell to tomorrow.
Militia, Brigandage and Graft;
Hypocrisy, Tyranny and Violence,
Rescue, Redemption and Victory
Overshadowed by historical vehemence
Can’t recover past sleeplessness.
The grievances and loss of innocence,
Embedded in eternal soul
Trademark of pilgrims.
“Elephants fighting or dancing
The grass suffers”
In our world of circles
It’s balloon in the air for those held in captivity
” The strongest point, is the joint.”
Those who know don’t talk,
Those who talk don’t know.
Who is there for the weak
Who can speak for the poor
Who can share their story
Or exchange their misery,
Than the civilization of Sambisa.
