Ahead of the forthcoming gubernatorial elections in Kogi and Bayelsa States, in November and December 2015, respectively, the Nigeria police have concluded plans to deploy the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) to the states.
Making the disclosure, Tuesday, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Solomon E. Arase, said this was in addition to the deployment of additional manpower to Kogi and Bayelsa States’ police commands.
A statement by Force Public Relations Office, Olabisi Kolawole (Ag ACP) also said the Police leadership directed the deployment of FSARS to complement the Safer Highway Patrols in those states as well as ensure proper policing of the nation’s highway.
While briefing members of the Police Management Team in his office, IGP Arase noted that ‘these measures have become imperative to ensure proper monitoring of activities leading to a hitch-fee election.’
“This is in addition to stepping up Police visibilities on our Highways in the Yuletide, and to systematically decapitate hoodlums taking advantage of the season to unleash terror on innocent Nigerians”, the police chief said.
