Two gunmen have been killed during a shoot out, just as the Police bust a group of live ammunition distributors with many suspects arrested in Sokoto State.
During the incident, which took place in Rabah Local government area of Sokoto state, one of the shot gunmen, Aliyu Abdullahi, was said to have been riding a KASEA motorcycle and carrying an AK49 rifle loaded with 30 rounds of live ammunition and an extra magazine.
The second shot gunman, identified as Ali Alhaji Adduwa, who was the Ward Head of Gidan Bunu village of the local government, was described as the armorer of the gang.
Disclosing this, Sokoto police command spokesperson, Cordelia Nwawe said about 4,000 live ammunition have been recovered from the gang.
She said the arrests and recovery was a product of intensive and painstaking intelligence on the gang aimed at stopping all forms of armed banditry, kidnapping and armed robbery activities ahead of 2019 general election.
According to her, police investigation had revealed that the arms and live ammunition were being smuggled into Sokoto, Zamfara and Kebbi states from Galmi area of Niger Republic.
According to Nwawe, some of the suspects in connection with the gang are still at large.
