According to a statement by Femi Adesina, Special Adviser to the President (Media & Publicity), President Buhari acknowledged that the deceased served meritoriously as the head of the nation’s police force for three years, 1983-1986.
The statement said that as a member of the Security Council and Vice Chairman of the Constitution Review Committee in 1987, the President believes the former Inspector General contributed immensely to the reforms and structuring of the nation’s security, and the processes that heralded good governance and democracy and prayed that the almighty God will grant the departed soul eternal rest, and comfort his family.
In his message, announcing the demise of Sir Inyang, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim K. Idris, said that a condolence register has been opened at the reception of the Force Headquarters for the personnel of the Force and members of the public to append their condolence messages.
The statement by DCP Don N. Awunah, Force Public Relations Officer, noted that the late Rtd IGP was appointed Vice Chairman of the Constitution Review committee in 1987, and conferred with the National Honour of Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON).
Sir Inyang hails from Ewang Village, Mbo LGA of Akwa Ibom State and was enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force on 1st October, 1949 and rose through the ranks to the highest exalted position of Inspector General of Police, Federal Republic of Nigeria in 1984 and served meritoriously until his retirement from the Force in October, 1986. He earlier served as Commissioner of Police in Kano and Old Bendel States.
The Inspector General of Police and his management team, on behalf of the entire officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force commiserated with the ETIM INYANG family and the Government and people of Akwa Ibom State on the passage of the former IGP.
