


In a stirring call to arms, Lagos State Governor Jide Sanwo-Olu has passionately urged the Super Eagles to give their all and bring pride to the nation at the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Addressing the team at a dinner hosted in their honor upon their return from the training camp in Abu Dhabi, Governor Sanwo-Olu assured the Eagles of unwavering support from both himself and the 200 million Nigerians eagerly anticipating the team’s success at AFCON.
In his motivating speech, Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized the Super Eagles’ role as a unifying force for the country, expressing the excitement pulsating through the hearts of millions of Nigerians. He urged the players to believe in themselves, work cohesively as a team, and not to give up in Côte d’Ivoire.
The Governor pledged his personal commitment to be present in Abidjan for the games, reinforcing the collective desire for the team to secure victory in the continental championship. Governor Sanwo-Olu highlighted the significance of the AFCON triumph as the best palliative for the nation. He said ” “You are the country unifier; there is an excitement in the heart of over 200 million Nigerians. Believe in yourself, and don’t give up in Côte d’Ivoire.
“We can’t say we want to do it again by mouth; you must give your best. Work as a team. It is not an individual sport; it is a team sport. Personally, I have committed myself. I will be in Abidjan for the games and support the team.
“I want to assure you that our best wish is to do it for our country. Winning the AFCON will be the best palliative.”
As the 34th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations kicks off in Cote d’Ivoire, the Super Eagles, despite facing challenges with injuries, remain strong contenders for the tournament’s trophy. While some key players like Taiwo Awoniyi and Victor Boniface have been sidelined, the team’s attacking prowess, led by fit strikers Victor Osimhen and Umar Sadiq, keeps the hopes high for a successful campaign.
