Senate President appoints new COS

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has appointed Chinedu Akabueze as his new Chief of Staff. Akabueze, who has served as the Senate Clerk since March 2022, is due to retire after reaching the age of 60.

He takes over from Sylvester Okonkwo, who has been appointed by President Bola Tinubu as the Executive Director of the newly formed South East Development Commission.

Akabueze’s appointment is the result of his years of dedicated service in the Senate. Throughout his time there, he played a significant role in drafting and supporting key bills and motions that have shaped legislative work. His vast experience is expected to assist Akpabio in the smooth running of the Senate’s activities as he takes on this new role.

The Senate President’s choice of Akabueze reflects the importance of experience and expertise in managing the day-to-day operations of the Senate, particularly during this period of significant political changes in the country. Akabueze’s appointment is seen as a step towards ensuring continuity and efficiency in the Senate’s work as it faces new challenges.

Akabueze’s long-standing contribution to Nigeria’s legislative processes has earned him this new responsibility at a crucial time.
