This follows the announcement of the timetable for the conduct of governorship elections in Edo and Ondo states by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Thursday.
In the schedule approved by the PDP’s NWC, the Ward Congress in the state holds on Saturday, March 5, 2016; Local Government Congress holds on Thursday, March 10, 2016 while the State Congress is scheduled for Monday, March 14, 2016.
According to a statement by Chief Olisa Metuh, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Thursday, the Congresses will be conducted by Congress Committees sent from the National Secretariat, Abuja, as the State Executive of the party in the state has since expired.
“All members of the party in Edo State are to be guided by this accordingly,” the statement read.
INEC, Thursday, released dates for the conduct of governorship elections in both Edo and Ondo States.
According to the commission’s daily bulletin issued in Abuja and confirmed by INEC’s Deputy Director in charge of Voter Education and Publicity, Mr. Nick Dazang, while governorship election would hold on September 10 in Edo State that of Ondo State would take place, November 26, 2016.
According to the Timetable and Schedule of Activities for Edo governorship election, campaigns by political parties should begin by June 12, 2016.
“The conduct of party primaries in Edo, including resolution of disputes arising from the primaries, will take place from June 2 to Monday July 4, 2016.”
It added that the Commission would publish the official Register of Voters for the Edo governorship election on August 11.
“On the same day, INEC will publish the list of nominated candidates by political parties.”
According to the timetable, September 8 will be the last day for campaigns in Edo.
