Invincible Senegal edged out Gambia 2-0 to be crowned Champions of the 2023 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations tournament in Egypt on Saturday evening.

The Young Terenga Lions scored a goal in each half of the game to hand Senegal the continental crown, their first in this category having failed to lift the trophy in three past editions.

Senegal have previously taken home the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations and Championship of African Nations titles to cement their place as the best in Africa.

For their first Africa U-20 Cup of Nations title, Senegal faced the challenge of a Gambian team who like them romped to the final with five clean sheet wins.

Soulayemane Faye scored the opening goal in the 6th minute to end Gambia’s record of 5-games without conceding any goals at the tournament as Senegal displayed will to win the title after coming close on three occasions.

Mamadou Camara doubled the Young Terenga Lions’ lead in the 56th minute and that was just enough to ensure the title heads to Dakar.

The game finished Senegal 2- Gambia 0 – at the Cairo International stadium. A perfect tournament for Senegal who alongside defeated finalists Gambia, Nigeria and Tunisia will represent Africa at the U-20 FIFA World Cup later this year.
