Sokoto Commissioner for Justice gets SAN

The Sokoto State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Suleiman Usman has become the first indigene of the state and resident lawyer to rise to the position of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).
He was among 29 others appointed by the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) and announced by the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court, Hadizatu Mustapha on Thursday.
Usman is 46 and has been in the legal practice since 2000.
He graduated from the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto in 1998 and enrolled at the Nigeria Law School between 1999 and 2000 when he was called to the Nigerian Bar.
The new Senior Advocate of Nigeria also holds a Master of Laws degree  from the University of Liverpool.
Usman was a one time Speaker of Kware local government between 1991 and 1993; Special Adviser to Sokoto state government on Legal Matters between 2003 and 2006; and Sokoto state delegate to the National Political Reform Conference in 2005.
Before his appointment as Sokoto state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice nearly two years ago, Usman was the Principal Counsel and Head of Practice at Gamzaki Law Chambers.
